'66 289 Pony Coupe

Welcome to our site.

What you'll see here is an amazing accomplishment that has a great story that goes along with it.

My son had a desire to purchase and restore a older model car.  We searched for Camero's, Chevelle's and Mustang's.  This '66 Mustang Pony Coupe is what we were able to find, purchase and the story starts here.

My name is Richard.  My son's name is Jacob.  We live in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas, TX.

My profession is printing sales.  My son, student.  I had called on a company in Terrell, TX back in 2002 that produces baseball uniforms.  The President of that company by the name of Bill had lived in the Lake Highlands area years before, raised a family there as my wife and I were doing.  Years passed and now it's January of 2006 and my son and I were looking for a car to restore.  After looking as far as Ft. Worth and all over the Metroplex, we found this car in Denton. TX.  Upon examining this car, I opened up the ash tray and there was an old insurance card.  This insurance card had the presidents of the uniform company on it and the street address was in the Lake Highlands area.  Unbelieveable!  We were now sitting in a car that had spent the majority of its life in the neighborhood we lived in.  The next day I contacted Bill at the uniform company.  Bill informed me that he had owned that car and his 3 kids had driven it all through high school and as well as college.  He then went on to tell me what a great car it had been.  The 289 engine required very little maintenance and that this car had to have over 200,000 miles on it.  They had sold it to this individual just about a year prior.  That afternoon, I contacted the individual that wanted to sell the car and I bought it.  We purchased it and brought it back to the Lake Highlands area on February 8th, 2006.  The car was not in good enough shape to drive it from Denton to Dallas, so I had a flat-bed wrecker pick it up and bring it to our house.  They dropped at the front of our house.  When my son came home, he drove it down the block and around to the back.  That's were all the fun began, and the expense of course.

We spent about 5 weeks removing everything, interior, engine and stripping the car clean.  Then we replaced the shocks and rebuilt all the brakes.  We then had it placed on a flat-bed wrecker and taken to a body shop where the rocker panels and hood had some dents and those were removed.  The paint was taken down to the metal.  Sprayed with polyethalene (I believe that's the stuff), sanded, sprayed again and sanded to perfection.  This car was originally Night Mist Blue.  We wanted it a little on the bluer side of that.  Painted and then a pearl sprayed on then clear coated.  The car was then placed on a flat-bed and brought back and rolled into our garage.  I was not a gear head.  I knew nothing about rebuilding/restoring a car.  There were times I would look at this car and get sick to my stomach because I had taken a car and tore it apart.  Now there was no turning back.  My son and I would spend hours working on the car and it would seem nothing was accomplished.  It all added up though as you will see on the different photo pages.  Please enjoy the ride through our web site as we appreciate you viewing our site.  This is a car we love to show off...Enjoy!
